WINNING…..who doesn’t want to?
The world is full of opportunities ‘to WIN’. Everyone wants to! But WINNING means different things to different people. Allow me to share the numbers of people joining in activities that are a large component in the concept of WINNING:
332 million people are considered ‘gamers’ who play online—half of the global population.
134 million people attend Casinos yearly—some get lucky while others who play over and over and over the ‘House’ (The casino) always WINS!!
105 million people purchased lottery tickets last year—50% of the country’s population.
247 million people participate in sports teams at least once a year.
Sir Clive Woodward (Performance Director for Team GB 2012 Olympics) stated: "Show me a person or a team that says they don’t care about Winning ….This is the Team I want to play next!!!"
Winning Profile is about Winning
Our profiling process can show those who learn their talents a path to get there. Winners have talent. Themes of resilience, achievement, drive, determination, and grit just to name a few. The Winning Profile doesn’t tell you what to ‘do’ but rather what talents and strengths you have to succeed in any role that matches and accentuates your talents. We DO WHAT WE ARE …….NOT…… we are WHAT WE DO!!!
Winning Profile has the belief of ‘will’ as a driving force internally. The will to live, to succeed, and the willingness to put it all on the line to maximize one’s performance is in all of us!!! Why else would the above numbers be so high.
America has been formed, as a culture, with the idea that everyone here wants and has the chance to Win and because of that possibility are willing to try even harder to achieve their goals.
Muhammed Ali was quoted as stating: “Champions aren’t made in gyms. Champions are made from something deep inside them – a desire, a dream a vision. They have to have the skill and will. But the WILL must be stronger than the skill.”
Skill can be learned whereas the talent of Will is born within us at birth. It is a part of how we are Pre-Wired. This concept of internal energy as the motive for behavior is the foundation of Interactive Perceptual Psychology (IPP). IPP shows human behavior as the sum of internal energy derived from thinking, feeling, and acting. This energy comes from the interaction among ten receptors found within each human being, one of which is "man's will".
Perfection is a Myth
For centuries, much of our society and established norms have been permeated by stimulus-response psychology (behaviorism), which claims that the only way to elicit a response is through external stimulus, emphasizing that the energy for change is external rather than internal. This belief focuses on outward, visible actions because the inner workings of the mind cannot be observed or measured. IPP, however, reverses this paradigm. The ten receptors—including Man’s Will, Internal Motivation, Psychological Dimensions, Learning Styles, Cognitive Development, Belief Structures, Physiological Needs, Social/Emotional Development, Language Development, and Spiritual Beliefs—are in a continual state of interaction, constituting an individual’s total personality and providing the internal energy for behavior.
In the quest to Win we have erroneously connected that goal with Perfection. Perfection is a myth. It was established as a practice in the 1200’s and it was related to the idea of religion that we could be ‘Free of Fault’…….like God. How many people do you know who have achieved this goal? An arena also filled with guilt and shame because they can’t be perfect. No one can.
Parents, teachers, mentors are all asking the wrong question that links to this idea of perfection…..What do you want to be? What is it you want to do? We are driven by ‘getting there’…..when in fact we should be asking ‘who are you?’ Who you are is a journey, not a destination. Perfection is a destination which CAN’T be achieved. How can we possibly answer the first two questions when we really don’t know who we are?
But when we start with figuring out who you ARE? What are your interests? What are your talents? That journey can begin to build our being. Philosophers noted long ago that the individual has vast internal resources for altering their self-concept and self-directed behavior, resources that can be tapped if the right climate is provided. IPP is based on the concept that individuals are continually involved in the process of "becoming". ‘Humans are not human beings, but rather humans becoming ’ and it starts with finding our GREATNESS.
Greatness is Achievable for Anyone - As Long As You Know Who You Are
Anxiety, depression and the creation of faultlessness has not worked well throughout our whole existence and society in general but GREATNESS can!!!
Everyone has the skill and will to obtain it. This practice of pushing people towards the unachievable needs to be curtailed and switched to discovering one’s own GREATNESS.
The application of IPP through its model, FOCUS, provides a systematic way to activate this internal behavioral system and achieve positive outcomes. Research has demonstrated that exposure to the FOCUS model can have a measurable and predictable positive effect on people, particularly teachers, supporting the pursuit of GREATNESS.
Studies showed a statistically significant increase in teacher efficacy for those exposed to FOCUS classes. High efficacy levels are consistently linked to better teacher and student outcomes.
Exposure to FOCUS also revealed a statistically significant linear decline in teacher burnout.
A positive change in self-concept was also observed as the number of FOCUS classes increased.
If you know who you are and you build on your talents, you are on your way to GREATNESS. And you can be GREAT at anything. GREATNESS is achievable for all of us!!!
And WHO DOESN’T want that? That’s how we WIN in LIFE and we ALL have that capacity!!!
So again, I will ask…. WINNING….. WHO doesn’t want to?
How about you?
